Positive Psychology Group - PPG
The PPG was formed in October 2013 by Tony de Gouveia Psychologist at Akeso Clinic in Alberton in response to a need for a psycho-educational group facilitated by a Psychologist in the South of Johannesburg.
This group as the name suggests is run on Positive Psychology principles which emphasise what works well currently and how one can increase and expand such activities/behaviours. The group meets once every 3 weeks on a Monday evening from 7 – 9 pm at Akeso Clinic Alberton.
At each session, the facilitator Tony de Gouveia makes a Powerpoint presentation on a relevant topic, some of which are requested by the group members themselves. After the presentation there is some form of assessment exercise on the topic of the day. Then the audience is split into small groups for discussion topics on the theme.
The final part of the meeting is a wrap-up of the discussion and presentation content by the facilitator
At present there is a core of about 10 – 15 members who regularly attend PPG meetings. The objective indirectly is to create a support structure for these members to cross-reference, interact and network beyond the confines of the group meetings
